Send a Message to Congress

Friends, There’s no better way to honor National Breast Cancer Awareness Month than to let our voices be heard. One of Komen’s core values states: We believe in the power of the individual - recognizing the extreme value of one and the dynamic force of many. Indeed, together, we will find a cure.

We must take action because unless concerned citizens like us speak out, we could see drastic cuts to Medicare reimbursement rates. These proposed cuts could limit women’s access to lifesaving screenings and treatment at the very point in their lives when they are at the greatest risk of developing breast cancer. Help ensure quality health care for women of all ages.

Send a message to your representatives in Congress and ask them to repeal the Medicare reimbursement cuts.

If you’ve already taken action on this campaign, please spread the word to your friends and family.

If Medicare reimbursement rates are reduced as planned, on January 1st many of the physicians on the front lines of breast cancer diagnosis and treatment - from oncologists to pathologists, from radiologists to surgeons - will be forced to cut back on their services for the aging population.

This is particularly troubling because 42% of all patients diagnosed with breast cancer are age 65 or older. More than half of all breast cancer-related deaths occur in this same age group.

Join Komen Foundation supporters nationwide. Urge your elected representatives to protect women's access to quality health care. Thank you!

Community Outreach

To truly eradicate breast cancer, we must not only invest in research for a cure for future generations, but we must also help meet the immediate breast health needs of women and their families facing the disease today.

In addition to raising funds for breast health programs for underserved women in Collin, Denton and Grayson counties, Komen North Texas offers a comprehensive Education and Outreach program to educate and raise awareness among ALL families in our community that EARLY DETECTION SAVES LIVES. Early detection and treatment offer the best chance of cure and ultimately survival. When the disease is confined to the breast, the five-year survival rate is over 95%.

From corporate requests to health fairs to speaking to diverse groups of organizations, the Community Outreach Committee and its presenters/volunteers have reached numerous women from all walks of life.

The North Texas Affiliate stocks a multitude of educational materials — all available to local organizations at no charge. In addition, to serve the needs of our growing minority population, we offer educational materials in multiple languages. Our basic educational materials include the most current breast health information and breast cancer statistics. Additional information is available on the national Susan G. Komen for the cure Web site.

To request educational materials or for a Komen representative to attend your health fair or function, please call 972 378 4808.
