Community Outreach
To truly eradicate breast cancer, we must not only invest in research for a cure for future generations, but we must also help meet the immediate breast health needs of women and their families facing the disease today.
In addition to raising funds for breast health programs for underserved women in Collin, Denton and Grayson counties, Komen North Texas offers a comprehensive Education and Outreach program to educate and raise awareness among ALL families in our community that EARLY DETECTION SAVES LIVES. Early detection and treatment offer the best chance of cure and ultimately survival. When the disease is confined to the breast, the five-year survival rate is over 95%.
From corporate requests to health fairs to speaking to diverse groups of organizations, the Community Outreach Committee and its presenters/volunteers have reached numerous women from all walks of life.
The North Texas Affiliate stocks a multitude of educational materials — all available to local organizations at no charge. In addition, to serve the needs of our growing minority population, we offer educational materials in multiple languages. Our basic educational materials include the most current breast health information and breast cancer statistics. Additional information is available on the national Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation website.
