The Asian Breast Health Outreach Project empowers the Asian community of Collin and Denton counties with the knowledge and implementation of early detection of breast cancer by providing educational seminars and screening mammograms for Asian women. Screening mammograms and referrals are provided at no cost through the Center for Women’s Health at the Richardson Regional Medical Center.

The Bridge Breast Network (“The Bridge”) provides low income, uninsured individuals access to diagnostic and treatment services for breast cancer. The Bridge was founded on the premise that no woman should suffer in silence with breast cancer because she lacks insurance. Members of the North Texas medical community support The Bridge by donating their professional services, while local medical facilities offer greatly reduced rates for medical procedures.

The Bridge of Blessings provides temporary financial assistance to qualified individuals in the North Texas area who are undergoing treatment for breast cancer. Many individuals, particularly those unable to work as they undergo treatment, face tremendous stress from financial burdens. The goal is to eliminate this unnecessary hardship.

Collin County Health Care Services provides a breast cancer education and screening program for Collin County’s low-income, uninsured and at-risk women. The goal is to help reduce the number of women getting breast cancer in Collin County. The health department has a dedicated and caring staff that devotes their time and expertise to insure this program’s continued success.

The Denton County Health Department’s mammogram project provides access to low cost screening mammograms. Financial assistance is available to Denton County women 40 years or older, who are uninsured, are in a low-income bracket and have not had a screening mammogram in the past 12 months. In an effort to make the program easily accessible to eligible Denton County residents, outreach for the program is provided by a variety of means including community presentations, health fairs and continual community collaboration.

The Reflections program provides individualized breast prostheses and attractive, well-fitted bras to enhance appearance and improve comfort, at no cost to recipients. In addition, case management, individual counseling and peer support are available, as well as financial assistance with transportation to appointments. Reflections’ goal is to help women feel more comfortable and look the way they would prefer following treatment, usually surgery, for breast cancer, and to overcome many of the social, economic and emotional challenges presented by their disease and their health status.

Family Health Care, Inc. provides routine and diagnostic breast screening to uninsured men and women, especially Hispanic and African American women in Denton County. Women who are 40 years of age or older are targeted for screening mammograms at their annual exams. Breast diagnostic exams and biopsies are available to those, of any age or from any county, with masses or suspicious symptoms. Local Denton hospitals, Breast Diagnostics Clinic, surgeons and radiologists offer discounted rates to provide these services to our clients.

The Grayson County Health Department provides breast cancer education, screening exams and mammograms for those unable to access these services in the county. The target population includes medically underserved African American, Hispanic and older women who have limited or no access to breast health care. The Grayson County Health Department outreach programs include breast health forums, screenings, doctor referrals, as well as support system for these women through diagnosis and treatment.

Better Breast Health is a free community outreach program. The program includes education about breast cancer statistics and risk factors, mammogram and screening guidelines, breast self-exam instruction, cancer prevention research, genetic and lifestyles factors, computerized breast cancer risk assessments based on the Gail model, screening mammograms and referrals for screening/diagnostic mammograms and cancer treatment.

The new Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano Breast Cancer Radiation Treatment Program provides a Full External Radiation Treatment Course for uninsured or underinsured low income women diagnosed with breast cancer. Medical and support staff have volunteered reduced rates, time and services in order to provide radiation treatment at a discounted rate for each patient. This program will empower breast cancer patients and ensure quality and timely care in the treatment of breast cancer.

The Pioneer Breast Health and Community Outreach Program of Denton County aims to improve individuals’ knowledge and attitudes about breast health and to increase mammography rates in Denton County. The program provides breast health education, mammograms and follow-up services.
