Local Girl Scout Project Dedicated to Survivors at Plano Race

Building Strength by Building Beads

Inspired by the bravery of survivors facing breast cancer, 11-year Girl Scout veteran, Chloe Alexander, dedicated her Gold Award project to the survivors of the Plano Race for the Cure.  Through her “Building Strength by Building Beads” initiative, this enterprising young lady, created and designed 700 bead bracelets for our Survivor Tent Area.  Her goal was to remind these women what they are fighting for. Ms. Alexander stated, “every time they look down at their wrists and see the bracelet that was specially designed for them, I want them to remember that they are not alone in this battle… [because] everyone is affected by breast cancer”.

She recruited approximately 20 people from her family and friends to assemble the bracelets and their pink gift pouches.  The project took more than 75 hours to complete and she was on-hand at the Race to personally gift the bracelets to our VIPs in pink. Ms. Alexander summed up her experience by saying, “seeing the happiness and the gratefulness on the women's faces made all those hours of hard work worth it.”
